State Scientific Institution "Institute for Single Crystals" of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

State Scientific Institution "Institute for Single Crystals" of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine began its history in 1955 as branch of Kharkov All-Union Research Institute of Chemical Reagents (Moscow).

In 1961 the Branch was reorganized in All-Union Research Institute for Single Crystals, Scintillation Materials and Extra Pure Chemical Reagents of Ministry of Chemical Industry.

In 1975 on the basis of the Institute was created Research-and-production Association "Monocrystalreaktyv". It also included Kharkov Plant for Chemical Reagents, which had been founded in 1934.

In 1991 the Association was placed under National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine authority and in 1995 on it basis Scientific and Technological Corporation "Institute for Single Crystals" was created and then in several steps was reorganized into Sate Scientific Institution.

Now Sate Scientific Institution "Institute for Single Crystals" includes the following organizations from three cities of Ukraine:

• Institute for Single Crystals (Kharkiv);
• Institute of Scintillation Materials (Kharkiv);
• Division of Functional Materials Chemistry (Kharkiv);
• Scientific and Technical Center of Immunobiotechnology (Kyiv);
• State Enterprise "Research Institute of Microdevises" (Kyiv);
• State Enterprise " Plant for Chemical Reagents" (Kharkiv);
• State Enterprise "Scientific and Research Institute of Functional Microelectronics" (Simferopol).

Main scientific interests of our scientists are fundamental researches of crystals growth processes, interaction of radiation with substances; search of new crystals spheres and complex research of physical effects in single crystals; theory of nonlinear phenomenon, transport in condensed states; development of technology for scintillation detectors and creation devices on their basis; chemistry and technology of photoactive organic compounds; chiral and liquid crystalline materials; analytic chemistry and structural researches; chemistry and technology of materials for pharmaceutical and biology proposes. At last time a large attention is focused on elaboration and perfection of immune-enzymatic test-systems for diagnostics of important human and animal diseases; on reference panel creation for standardization of laboratory diagnostic of infectious diseases with immune-enzymatic and molecular-genetic methods; fast immune-chromatographic tests (without special equipment).

During the years of activity of the Institution scientific activity, unique technologies of obtaining of large-size plastic scintillations with advanced surface was elaborated. These scintillations exceed best world's analogues in their radiation strength. Special technologies and equipment for automated growing of big size crystals and production on its basis scintillation detectors for medical tomographic gamma-camera were also created. An idea about growing leucosapphire single crystals in protective atmospheres was suggested and realized. On the basis of this idea a new technology of big size sapphire crystals growing was created. New generation growth installations were elaborated and their serial output was organized. Scientific basement of luminophores synthesis with desired chemical and physical properties was founded, sequence of new chemical reactions, which has great importance, was founded and elaborated. It was created immune enzymatic test-systems for diseases passing through blood, namely HIV/AIDS, acute viral hepatitis B and C, complex of TORCH-infection.

State Scientific Institution "Institute for Single Crystals" has close creative connections with many leading scientific centers and universities of Russia, Belorussia, USA, Israel, China, India, Japan and practically all Western Europe countries.
